Visit Our Bed and Breakfasts in Amory Mississippi
Amory is a planned city located mid-way between Birmingham, AL & Memphis, TN. The city boasts two railroads, a county airport, waterway for sport and leisure, a port with an industrial park and significant county government complex. Amory is a great place to live, work and worship. Its educational and medical facilities are second to none, churches abound, and industry loves the Amory area, whose people have a great work ethic. Choose lodging at an inn of the Bed and Breakfast Association of Mississippi and explore all that Amory has to offer.
When the KCM&B Railroad laid out plans for their new Birmingham-to-Memphis line in 1887, they drew an “x” at the mid-point and created Amory . . . truly a PLANNED community that has been the proud owner of a railroad heritage ever since! The KCM&B (later Frisco, then Burlington Northern and now Burlington Northern Santa Fe) platted a system of wide streets and avenues and orderly arrangements of business and residential areas.
Besides the railroads Amory has easy access to the Monroe County Airport 8 miles away and its 5,000 ft. lighted runway, which accommodates private planes and corporate jets. The nearest commercial airport is only 28 miles away. U. S. Highway 278 runs east and west through Amory with Mississippi Highway 25 running north and south.
Port facilities and industrial park are located adjacent to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Industries in the Amory area include aluminum and steel tubing, industrial valves, truck body manufacturing, timber, furniture, fertilizer, and boats.
The waterway provides boaters, water skiers and fishermen a great place to enjoy their pastimes. There are numerous public access areas with boat ramps. Bass, crappie, bream and catfish . . . in abundance . . . populate the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Amory is also home to a mammoth, ultra-modern county governmental building which houses justice court, various county offices and the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce.
